Due to the Covid-19 outbreak in 2020, hundreds of schools were forced to cancel their normal end-of-year transition activities. This resulted in countless numbers of preschool children not getting the usual opportunity to visit their new Reception Class and meet their new class teachers. This in turn made some children and parents feel anxious about the prospect of starting school in September and concerned that they wouldn’t know what to expect.
As a result, the Norwich Opportunity Area wanted to help by funding 18 amazing virtual tours of some of our Norwich Primary Schools. These tours, complete with welcome videos from Reception Class Teachers and Headteachers, provided a fantastic way for families to still explore their new school and meet their key staff virtually, whilst staying in the comfort of their own homes.
Since then, following the success of the Virtual Tours project in 2020 and the continued presence of Covid-19, the Norwich Opportunity Area have gone on to fund another 38 virtual tours across 3 key transition phases; home to nursery, nursery to Reception Class, Infant School to Junior School. This means that:
20 Nurseries across Norwich now have a virtual tour
ALL Primary and Infant School’s across Norwich now have a virtual tour of their Reception classes (27)
ALL Junior School’s across Norwich now have a virtual tour of their Year 3 classes (7)
